A time co-op is a collaborative organizational model where members contribute time, skills, or resources and share in the benefits of the group and members of the group. This type of co-op operates using sociocracy, a governance method focused on equality, transparency, and effective decision-making and members of the co-op exchange their time and skills to benefit one another and the group. The hours contributed are then recorded and exchanged for mutual and group benefit.

The time co-op, while flexible in roles, is more structured than a traditional time bank in its governance and long-term planning due to it's sociocratic approach. In time co-ops, the members are more invested in the well-being of one another whereas, in time banks, the members typically have less personal investment in the other members. 

While both time co-ops and time banks aim to foster community, equality, and mutual support, they differ significantly in their organizational structure, governance, purpose, and scope. A sociocratically run time co-op offers a more structured, participatory, and sustainable approach to community-building, while time banking provides a more flexible, informal system for exchanging services and strengthening social networks. Each model has its strengths and can complement the other in building resilient, interconnected communities.
